Sikandar Movie Review: A Missed Opportunity for Salman Khan?

Sikandar follows Sanjay “Sikandar” Rajkot (Salman Khan), a local hero in Rajkot, Gujarat, who transforms into a vengeance-driven force after a personal tragedy. The story weaves in themes of justice, organ donation, and emotional resilience, with Rashmika Mandanna playing his supportive wife, Saisri. The ensemble cast, including Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Sathyaraj, and Prateik Babbar, adds depth to the narrative—or at least, that was the intention.

Critics, however, have been less than kind. The film currently holds a dismal 8% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with reviewers slamming its “weak script” and “predictable plot.” The Times of India awarded it a mere 2 out of 5 stars, calling the storyline and execution “the biggest letdown of this larger-than-life movie.” Indian Express echoed this sentiment, labeling it “dull” and giving it just 1.5 stars, noting that even Salman’s signature action charisma couldn’t salvage the sluggish narrative.

On the flip side, some fans have praised Salman’s commanding screen presence and the film’s emotional beats. The soundtrack, composed by Pritam with a background score by Santhosh Narayanan, has received mixed reviews. While some tracks amplify the action, others, like the reworked Lag Jaa Gale sung by Iulia Vantur, have been panned.

As Sikandar limps past the ₹100 crore mark in India, its future lies in weekend holdovers and eventual OTT release buzz. Fans are already speculating about a digital premiere, likely on a platform like Netflix or Amazon Prime, where Salman’s loyal base could give it a second wind.

For Salman, the road ahead includes Kick 2 with Sajid Nadiadwala and an action thriller with Sanjay Dutt, both announced during Sikandar’s promotion. After a string of underwhelming releases like Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Tiger 3, the superstar may need to rethink his script choices to reclaim his box office throne.

Sikandar had all the ingredients for a Bollywood blockbuster—Salman Khan, an Eid release, and a seasoned director—but it’s stumbled over a weak plot and lackluster execution. While it’s not a total washout, thanks to Salman’s die-hard fans, it’s a far cry from the glory days of Dabangg or Bajrangi Bhaijaan. For now, Sikandar remains a cautionary tale of star power clashing with subpar storytelling.
