Xiaomi 14 first impressions: A Leica-lly good phone

Xiaomi, renowned for its innovative solutions worldwide, has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone series, the Xiaomi 14 series, at an exclusive launch event in Barcelona, Spain. This introduction marks a significant milestone in Xiaomi’s dedication to providing unparalleled experiences to consumers globally. During the event, William Lu, Partner and President of Xiaomi Corporation and President of Xiaomi International Business Department, presented the company’s newly enhanced group strategy ‘Human X Car X Home’ smart ecosystem to international markets.

Since formalising their strategic partnership in 2022, Xiaomi and Leica have together revolutionised the mobile imaging industry. With a commitment to excellence, Xiaomi has consistently raised the bar in the industry with each successive product generation. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is built around the sturdy Xiaomi guardian structure, comprising a high-strength aluminium frame, Xiaomi nano-tech vegan leather, and Xiaomi shield glass.

Crafted from a single aluminium block, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra boasts an impressive 1.38x improvement in frame strength. The Xiaomi nano-tech vegan leather utilises a newly developed formula, resulting in a thinner and lighter finish with 6x improved wear resistance. Featuring Xiaomi shield glass, the innovative all-around liquid display of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra redefines the display experience by achieving consistent curvature on all sides and corners, seamlessly blending the visual appeal of a flat screen with the tactile feedback of a curved edge. Furthermore, it delivers an immersive visual experience with a Xiaomi-custom C8 WQHD+ 6.73″ AMOLED display, showcasing a stunning WQHD+ resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, a pixel density of 522 ppi, and a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate, all supported by an impressive peak brightness of 3000 nits.

The Xiaomi 14 series features the state-of-the-art Xiaomi HyperOS operating system, which is the result of seven years of dedicated development by Xiaomi. This user-centric system is tailored for the ‘Human X Car X Home’ smart ecosystem and focuses on four key objectives: comprehensive refinement, seamless cross-device connectivity, proactive intelligence, and end-to-end security.

Regarding battery and charging capabilities, both the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra are equipped with the Xiaomi Surge Battery Management System, ensuring prolonged performance throughout the day. The Xiaomi 14 boasts a 4610mAh battery supported by 90W HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge.
