Explosion at café in Bengaluru, individual who planted IED bomb identified on CCTV.

At least ten individuals sustained injuries in an explosion at the renowned Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the individual who placed the bag containing the IED has been identified on CCTV.

On Friday afternoon, a bomb exploded at Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram Cafe, resulting in injuries to at least ten people. Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, verified that the explosion was triggered by an IED. He stated that a man placed a bag containing the device inside the cafe. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed that the perpetrator has been identified on CCTV. According to him, the suspect is approximately 28 to 30 years old and ordered Rava Idli at the cafe.

Sources informed the Chief Minister that besides the IED discovered in the bag, no additional explosive devices were found on the premises. Siddaramaiah mentioned that the individual who left the bag inside the cafe also obtained a token from the cash counter. He added that the cashier is currently under interrogation.

When asked if the incident was a terrorist act, the Chief Minister stated that it remains uncertain and investigations are ongoing, according to the news agency PTI.

“It was not a large-scale blast, but an improvised explosive blast. While such occurrences have happened before, they shouldn’t be occurring. We’ll ascertain the nature of the incident. Apart from the incident in Mangaluru during BJP rule, such blasts haven’t occurred recently. This is the first such incident during our government,” he elaborated.

The injured individuals included both staff members and a customer. The Chief Minister assured that their injuries are not critical.

The nine individuals injured in the blast have been identified as hotel staff members Farooq (19), Amazon employee Deepanshu (23), Swarnamba (49), Mohan (41), Nagashree (35), Momi (30), Balaram Krishnan (31), Navya (25), and Srinivas (67).

A case has been filed at the HAL Police Station in Bengaluru regarding the blast, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
